š Recipe Corner: Campfire Apple Crisp
Nothing says fall camping like the smell of cinnamon and apples around the campfire. This easy one-pot recipe will become your new favorite!
Ingredients:
- 6-8 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare your campfire and let it burn down to hot coals
- Grease a 10-inch cast iron Dutch oven
- Layer the sliced apples in the bottom of the Dutch oven
- In a bowl, mix oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples
- Cover with lid and place on hot coals
- Place additional coals on top of the lid (about 2/3 on top, 1/3 underneath)
- Cook for 25-30 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired
